12-year-old arrested in fatal stabbing of younger sister, Authorities have arrested a 12-year-old California boy for fatally stabbing his 8-year-old sister at her home last month.
Calaveras County Sheriff Gary Kuntz told reporters that the boy was taken into custody Saturday afternoon and will be charged with killing his sister, Leila Fowler, Fox 40 reported.
“Citizens of Calaveras County can sleep a little better tonight,” Sheriff Kuntz said.
The April 27 attack in the Valley Springs community set off a massive manhunt, Fox reported. The boy originally told police he had encountered an intruder in the home.
No motive or any further details about the case were given. Authorities noted that the investigation is ongoing.
California law only allows children as young as 14 to be tried as an adult, Fox 40 reports. If the boy is convicted of homicide, he can be released by age 25.
